sacrificial flat plates? Explanation: This is just a guess, because what's happening in the French isn't entirely clear. The idea seems to be that the flat portion of the spar (or rail, or girder) is being repaired through the use of other parts that will intentionally be worn away or destroyed during service. Not altogether logical, but "sacrificial" (which is the standard term in such situations, usually with reference to layers) does seem to reflect the sense of "martyr"...
