Surveying / Architectural survey and modelling
French term or phrase: polygonale
I'm going for 'traverse" or "traverse line" for the moment, but surveying isn't my field. Professional advice welcome.

traverse

Explanation:
Not my field, but WP says:

In the 18th century in Europe triangulation was used to build a hierarchy of networks to allow point positioning within a country. Highest in the hierarchy were triangulation networks. These were densified into networks of **traverses (polygons)**, into which local mapping surveying measurements, usually with measuring tape, corner prism and the familiar red and white poles, are tied.

Also:

Traverse networks involve placing survey stations along a line or path of travel, and then using the previously surveyed points as a base for observing the next point.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Arrigo. This bolsters my confidence, because I'd only found one bilingual website with ref to traverses.
