French term or phrase: La phase de glisse est optimale, à condition d’être bien aligné
Hi everybody,

This is a 2 minute long video about how to perform a breaststroke. It's a commentary that I'm translating. The text is talking about the "gliding phase" of the stroke, which comes after you have performed a sweep with your arms followed by a outward kick with your legs - this propels you.

Here is the complete sentence and my attempt: "Tout d’abord, la phase de glisse est optimale, à condition d’être bien aligné tout en regardant le fond du bassin" - "Firstly, the glide phase is optimal when your body is streamlined and you are facing the pool floor".

However, I'm wonder whether "Firstly, the glide phase is optimal as long as you are streamlined and facing the pool floor" is better, or any other alternatives that you may be able to suggest.

Explanation:
I think you need to keep "streamlined".
I also think you should keep the idea of "looking at" too. It is not enough to be facing the bottom of the pool. If you are not facing the bottom of the pool, it is not breaststroke; it's either a sidestroke or you are no your back and looking at the ceiling!
When your body is streamlined and you keep looking at the bottom of the pool, your body is much straighter and your head keeps down. Much more efficient.

If you look ahead, your body will be curved upwards and you'll be a lot less effiicent. You'll also look like a bit like a toad and probably have a flowered swim cap on! ;-)

Means you keep your ehad tucked down and the whole body is much straighter. Try it next time you swim. It's more comfortable and you can go quite fast with less effort!
