agree  Cyril Tollari: I'd like to know the difference wtih a harbour because harbour can be translated by rade in French
2 hrs
  -> the roadstead is in the sheltered area of the bay outside the actual port entrance (so "harbour"="shelter") but not in the port itself. It's for anchorage not mooring

agree  SafeTex: i normally use "harbour roads" but this is fine too

  -> Thanks:-)

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: Yes. I know the Rade de Brest. When you check Google images, you'll find plently of hits describing what is a large area outside the harbour/port. I know the term "roads/roadstead".
