neutral  Tony M: I think that's highly unlikely, D! For emergency access, it would be helpful to see which key to grab — and no real reason to obscure them; I feel sure this is about a 'fixed' pane of glass not readily opened, but can be in an emergency — even broken!

agree  writeaway: or just a small glass case. the break glass is usually for fire extinguishers or axes, not just to get a key. /really? any glass can be broken in theory. I agree with phil- not necessarily break glass at all.

  -> The "gardien" may have a key to open the box, others will break the glass in case of emergency

  -> "verre dormant" means that it does not normally open: this is the contrary of "ouvrant" for a window or door for example, most "break glass" cabinets also have a lock that can open with a key, in French like in English
