I'd just mention that you'll find escalier/bâtiment unique in official docs about properties (title deeds drafted by solicitors, auction sales, etc.), bearing in mind this is a lease agreement. I've kept a copy of the deed of the first flat I bought in Paris. Its description includes bâtiment unique, escalier unique but it was nothing to write home about and there was nothing posh about the area. I think it has to do with locating the property as precisely as possible in terms of ownership and/or perhaps for tax reasons - these tax people know exactly where we live and what it's worth :-) Mentioning escalier unique even when there's no other staircase is perhaps due to the fact that it has to be included formally for the doc to be valid. |
