"suspendus aux chances" on tenterhooks over the fate Explanation: "On tenterhooks anxiously waiting for news about someone or something She was on tenterhooks until her son called and said he was not hurt. Etymology: based on the literal meaning of tenterhook (a hook that holds cloth that is stretched to dry), suggesting that someone's emotions are tightly stretched like a piece of cloth held by tenterhooks See also: tenterhook Cambridge Dictionary of American Idioms Copyright © Cambridge University Press 2003." http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/on tenterhooks Other possibilities for "chances": outcome, hopes. Though I prefer "fate". |

"suspendus aux chances" hung onto OR (was) riveted to the prospects Explanation: A literal translation might work, actually, though one usually hangs on to someone's every word, not prospects or chances of success, so I'm not sure how idiomatic it sounds. Riveted to is another option, but again, not sure how idiomatic it sounds here. Example sentence(s):
