French term or phrase: atteint dans sa chair vive
Hello

I need help finding a similar rendering in English. The author is talking about the global economic crisis:

"Un certain modèle, celui du plus fort, a été atteint dans sa chair vive."

Its core? Its flesh? Cut to the bone?

Thank you for your help!

agree  Verginia Ophof: yes !! 'Cut to the quick' has the same origin as 'Quick and the Dead'. Here "quick" comes from the old English Cwicu meaning "living" and thus to "cut to the quick" implies a deep wound into living flesh.

A kind of model, that of the most adapted (for the times), came/was reached during his/her lifetime.
