I know there are several archive entries for this word, but not one specific to patents

It might be hoped that a quick google on "patent attachment" would sort this out... but unfortunately it comes up with a lot of patented attachments.

Can anyone confirm that this is a "patent attachment"? May be a stupid question, but from the context it seems to be slightly more specific thing than just "attached diagrams" or whatever: as with adding characteristics, it appears that adding "rattachements" is a way to modify a patent...
