with all due respect for our colleagues that made an effort in the past to contribute to glossaries, I would take these entries only as a starting point. The context in these entries is often not defined with enough precision, and what was good in another context may be not the best, or even sometimes totally wrong in the context of the current ST (not to mention that few entries are plain wrong). With the right use of search engines, you can first define with precision the actual context of the ST, (here: not just any committee, but "comité d'entreprise", which the Asker forgot to mention) and then find how terms are used in their actual context (a "general case" scenario is not of much help), and find out what exactly these "membres suppléants" are (here - basically a "reserve team" - which is not the "general case" meaning of "suppléants"). Yes, it takes more time than just looking at second-hand or third-hand information...
