Colonel Major

For armies of countries in NATO it's easy; there are well-established equivalence tables, for obvious practical reasons. But of course Tunisia is not in NATO and as far as I know its officer ranks do not have official OF equivalents. Colonel major in Tunisia is above Colonel and below Général de brigade. In NATO, Colonel is OF-5. The next rank above this, OF-6, is called Général de Brigade in France; there's nothing in between. In the US Army OF-6 is Brigadier General; again it is the rank immediately above Colonel.

Colonel major is the highest field officer rank in Tunisia (the category they call Officiers supérieurs), and Général de brigade is the first general officer rank (the category they call Officiers généraux). In most NATO armies there is no higher field officer rank than Colonel; OF-6 is a general officer rank. The UK is an exception, because Brigadier, the rank above Colonel, is regarded as a field officer. But it's OF-6, and within NATO it is clearly on a par with a French or American Brigadier-General. So I think Tunisia's Colonel Major is a rank that has no equivalent in these countries.

complicated to find "equivalence tables" for military ranks used by various armies around the world - there are not many differences from one army to another in the ways ranks are structured.
