That looks fine to me too [Military rank] as he is in the army but I'm sure that Brigadier is misleading for the reasons I gave before.

Thanks for your feedback. I wasn't clear. I was hoping to not commit to a military title but still try to explain the additional info in his title. I was actually thinking of putting [military rank] in square brackets to indicate that a rank was mentionned but not stating exactly what the rank is. Do you think that is too confusing?

Don't add it. It just creates confusion as:

"Brigadier is a military rank, the seniority of which depends on the country. In some countries, it is a senior rank above colonel, equivalent to a brigadier general, typically commanding a brigade of several thousand soldiers. In other countries, it is a non-commissioned rank"

We are talking about a doctor here so...

I think both options are valid. I couldn't find the Brigadier General used in other translations so I am hesitating to add it. At the same time I would be omitting info. What do you think of

'Medecin Chef des Services de Classe Normale' translated to 'Chief Medical Officer [Military rank]'
