start of the thread for the nut Explanation: I am seeing this as a shaft or rod that has a slightly reduced diameter on the end, which is threaded to take a nut. The point where the thread starts is also where the diameter is reduced (cf. épaulement') and is often a weak point in such components. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day 47 mins (2020-07-22 12:50:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yes, I totally agree with Chris C.'s discussion post — and I would say it is seeking to explain 'the thread intended for screwing the nut on', rather than the actual internal thread of the nut itself. |
