stratifié laminate Explanation: 'Formica' is (at least in the UK) the brand name of the 'original' 'kitchen worktop' laminate - the generic term for all sorts of variously plastic (etc.) surfaces that can be applied for decorative and other purposes. Note that in this instance, I'd be tempted to repalce the French 'definite article + singular' with the English plural without article: "the laminates industry" I believe they are simply using 'Formica' to explain what they mean by 'laminates', using the layman's term (just like saying hoover for vacuum-cleaner). |
