mono-oriented Explanation: Chris explanation are correct but "mono-oriented" also exists (see refs) By the way, the exact scientific term is "anisotropic" Ref1 The mono-oriented yarns obtained from the invention find numerous applications in the packaging industry, in the form of woven sacks. monoaxially oriented Explanation: Another option. This is how I would translate this term if I encountered it in a patent (uniaxially oriented is also found). Your choice will depend on the intended readership of the press release. See, e.g. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5798174.html Also, another explanation: Film layers of polyolefin are produced and are stretched (oriented) in one or two directions. If the film is stretched in only one direction, it is referred to as monoaxially oriented film. If the film is stretched in two directions, then the film is referred to as biaxially oriented film. oriented Explanation: In the quoted passage, you probably DO want to pair "100%" with "monoaxially", but thereafter you can simply refer to "oriented film". "Oriented" alone is always understood to mean oriented in ONE direction, as in "oriented strand board" (OSB, waferboard), "oriented HDPE", etc. Reference: http://www.galewrap.com/film.shtml |
