numéro d'assurance

French to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law: Contract(s) / Conveyancing
French term or phrase: numéro d'assurance
From Swiss French > English.

Obviously, I would usually translate this is "insurance number" or similar but this is from an extract from the Swiss Land Register, describing use of the land.

Habitation et garage, X m², N° d'assurance:

Is "insurance number" still correct?

I'm afraid I have a few more queries from this Register, as I'm more familiar with the German Register terms, more to follow individually...Thanks in advance for help!

numéro d\'assurance
policy number

Explanation:
"Insurance number" is not usual in UK English.

Presumably this is recorded because a cantonal monopoly of fire insurance applies.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Neil, with the cultural context you've alluded to, this makes more sense. I will need to use "Insurance Policy No." though, I think, as without any reference to insurance it might not make sense, but I agree "policy no." is more idiomatic.

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: "Policy number" without a shadow of a doubt. No need to add "insurance" though, as the context is clear. However, if the Asker feels more comfortable adding it, it certainly won't do any harm.

numéro d\'assurance
Insurance number

Explanation:
I'd go for that because there is nothing in the extract that could give these words another meaning. Maybe in the Swiss law every land is (automatically) assigned an insurance number.

numéro d'assurance (immobilière)
(land reinstatement) insurance ref. no.

Explanation:
I agree with Neil, whilst reckon the real estate vs. (cadastral) index map/land survey (and not land reg.) ref. needs (to) be spelled or spelt out.

Be that as it may, I have a vague conveyancing, landlord & tenant recollection of the UK Fires Prevention (Metropolis) Act 1774 that operates, albeit off-land register.

Example sentence(s):
  • Numéro de parcelle /du registre foncier/du cadastre Ce numéro ne doit pas être confondu avec le numéro de l’assurance immobilière. Le numéro de parcelle figure sur le plan cadastral que vous pouvez obtenir auprès de l’office du registre fonc
  • Plus de 200 ans d'expérience L’Assurance immobilière Berne (AIB) assure les bâtiments dans le canton de Berne contre le feu et les éléments naturels depuis plus de 200 ans.

-> Merci and thank you for your implied and implicit endorsement of my expanded interpretation of Swiss fire + nuclear-hittable (!) land conveyancing.

neutral  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: I think this is so clearly the insurance "policy" that althoug there is no harm in using "insurance", an "insurance reference n°" could be referring to something other than the policy. If th Asker is sure that it's the policy, then that should be shown.

-> Careful! The ch guide clearly refers to an ins. cert. no. that could be part of a blanket cantonal or estate pol. > 'Le numéro d’assurance ou d’assurance immobilière est attribué à chaque bâtiment.... Il est mentionné sur * l’attestation* d’assurance.'
