French term or phrase: Mail type
Hello,
THis appears several times in a dictionary for an online publishing site I am translating as in following entry:
gestionnaire mail type

Having googled it I get the impression that it means a stock email response, am I right and does anyone know the correct English term please?

many thanks,
Anne

Explanation:
Despite Rob's good point, I am pretty sure this is what it is. Publishing houses send out a lot of form letters so it's not unreasonable that on on-line version would send out a lot of stock e-mails.

it depends...

Explanation:
You're right that the "type" bit means "standard"; what's not clear is whether it's just the "mail" that is described as "type" or the "gestionnaire mail". In other words, the whole thing could be either a manager of standard e-mails/e-mail templates, or a "standard e-mail manager" (with "manager", I assume, being a software application).

agree  Elizabeth Slaney: While "type" surely describes "mail", your suggestion "standard e-mail manager" allows both or either to be considered standard...just like the French.
