Chairmanship of the Senate or Presidency Explanation: The senate which is composed of state representatives is chaired by a person referred to as "President" or "Chairman" depending on the country. For Canada, I believe s/he is referred to as the President probably because Canada has no president title rather a prime minister as Chief Executive Officer. |

Reference: No set translation? :-/ Reference information: Perhaps it seems odd, but I didn't find any set translation. On the contrary, I found a deliberate absence of translation. See this webpage, from the French National Assembly itself: http://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/english/dossiers/biodivers... But maybe someone else can come up with something better. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs (2011-05-27 15:56:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- @ Asker: Silly me, I didn't google the obvious! Yes: Recorded at the Presidency of the Senate I had trouble opening your links, but here are two PDFs that use this term: From the Assemblée Nationale: http://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/13/pdf/i1204uk.pdf From a UNESCO reprot, referenced in footnote 86: http://portal.unesco.org/culture/fr/files/39157/12433501101C... That's all I found, but I think it's "good to go." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs (2011-05-27 15:58:01 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- By the way, note past tense: recorded. :-) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs (2011-05-27 16:13:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- @ Gail: You're welcome, but you found the translation yourself. :-) |
