French term or phrase: empreint d'une délicate tendresse
Contexte:

I'm trying to avoid the use of the word tender/tenderness, in this case.

Merci,

Barbara

A bit of a stretch, perhaps, but I think it may get at the idea you're looking for.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, IMO, you're much closer to the general idea than the other answers offered, but the idea of "sensitivity" is important in this case, too.

neutral  Tony M: I don't think 'imbued with benevolence' really works in this kind of expression — though of course 'offers a benevolent view of...' etc. would work a lot better.

Explanation:
Like I said, the wider context will almost certainly have a huge influence on the way to take this; but as you are seeking to avoid 'tenderness', then 'affection' is another viable translation; likewise, if you want to avoid 'delicate' (and it all really depends on what the writer really meant: whether it was with a light brushstroke, ...), then you might consider the other sense of 'délicat' and by extension 'délicatesse', associated with 'politeness', so maybe here the sense of 'discreet'.

Maybe 'infused' would be better; would have to read the actual book to get a better idea of how it comes across.

neutral  Tony M: A 'soft touch' has a colloquial meaning that would be wholly unwelcome here! But in any case, I don't think we'de ever say that something was 'infused with a soft touch', would we?
