Villa unique des années 1900 au gout du jour

This is a sales description for an old villa that has been entirely renovated and is complete with games room, cinema etc. I am not sure whether this term relates to the properties older features, or whether it is describing its updated and modern renovation work (i.e. with "jour"? Current or original date?).

Thanks for the clarification. I agree with your opinion on meaning, but wanted to avoid anything like "standards" that is a technical word, while "gout" is more stylish and artistic sounding.
Most of these texts contain some technical phrases and some arty-descriptive type phrases. This one is not technical - that's my basis on this text anyway.

I don't consider there is much ambiguity here. "Goût de l'époque" or something similar would have been used if it were to mean that the renovation etc. had been done to match the 1900's style. The meaning of "jour" is now, current, today, so it means current day.

I think it means renovated to standards that one would expect for today's living. I cannot come up with one particular phrase or expression that is as neat as the French. That means you have choice.

"a unique 1900's villa renovated to modern-day expectations".
You might need to ask whether it is modern-day standards or style.

If it has been completely renovated, then the "gout du jour" can't refer to the 1900s and must surely refer to modern tastes. The phrase certainly has the potential to be ambiguous!
