using a magnifying glass

Explanation:
I suspect that "bino" stands for binoculaire" and my suggested translation would be "using a magnifying glass."

using a digital microscope

Explanation:
Bino, indeed, stands for binoculaire, ie. binoculars.
Though loupe translates into magnifying glass, loupe binoculaire is, in fact, similar to a microscope but less powerful.
(See explanation on http://www.lebretonopticiens.fr/Loupe-binoculaire-microscope... ).

The proper translation will depend on the process and material used:
- camera binocular (for examples, see https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Digital-Camera-Binoculars...
- digital microscope (for example, see https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B001ARF1RY/ref=asc_df_B001ARF1RY497... ).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your valuable comments.
If nothing in the S/T suggests there is some electronics involved, nothing implies there isn't, to my understanding.
In addition to Daryo's links, you may want to look at the following for a detailed example of a material assembly : http://www.geoforum.fr/topic/16084-mon-labo-photo-mineraux/

From my research it appears that many use a 'loupe binoculaire' for such photography, which translates into 'binocular magnifyer' or 'binocular loupe'.

neutral  Daryo: "camera binocular" is more likely - "digital" would imply that there is some electronics in this binoculars, which doesn't seem to be the case.

neutral  Tony M: This is likely to be over-interpretation: there is nothing in the S/T to suggest it is 'digital', while you have left out the 'bino' part that is in the S/T.
