French term or phrase: Selon moi il existe autant de photographes que de regards.
Hello

They are speaking of an illustrated book (beau-livre).

The context is

Je suis curieux de tout, du patrimoine, de la nature. Selon moi *** il existe autant de photographes que de regards.*** L’appareil photo est un prolongement de l’œil. Je cours après les découvertes, après les lumières… »

I've taken it to mean that each photo is a novel way of looking at something and I have as my translation

"In my opinion, there are as many photos as there are views"

But I'm not sure that I have done justice to this key sentence and I'd like to see what others have to offer

Thanks

For me, every image is a potential photo

Explanation:
everything you see is a potential photo

I think turning it round, while a useful trick in many cases, changes the meaning of what the author is saying here

As I see it, there are as many photographers as there are ways of seeing

Explanation:
Keep in mind that 'photographe' is a French neologism from 1834, defined as 'auteur qui écrit sur la lumière'.

Explanation:
Similar to rkillings but I feel this version reads better.

I think one becomes a different photographer with each look.

Explanation:
See discussion: following patrickfor's comment, to wit the "normal" wording is "autant de regards que de photographes"... So I think there's more to this than meets the eye. Exactly what the writer is "saying" is not so obvious... so this is a stab in the dark... but a literal translation won't suffice, IMHO.
