If your original is this one : http://www.boulogne-developpement.com/?cat=28 then the "atelier" is quite small. However, after having spent my teenage years in Grimsby, and being a little familiar with Boulogne and having spent 20 years living between Lorient and Vannes, then "factory" may imply something too big for your cotnext. That's why I like the neutral "unit" suggested by JaneD.

agree  JaneD: Oh dear - I have spent some time in Grimsby too! Agree that it's impossible to tell scale (argh) from the context, and I did come across other refs that implied that they were quite variable in size.
