Could you help me with the phrase? The context: two people practiced automatic writing, a bad spirit appeared, they were scared, they came in a church.

Nous avons prié, demandé à Dieu et aux Anges de nous pardonner. Nous avons pris conscience *d'avoir échappé à l'enfer* que nous étions en train de créer.
