This is the breakdown of costs among component materials in terms of environmental impact. The obvious solution "economic allocation" has been translated online in the right context, but by French authors, and I am not convinced that this is the best way.
Would appreciate your input.

"environmental impacts" could be expressed in money, but not necessarily - the "impacts" could be expressed in many other ways - in quantities of pollutants (CO2, particles, whatever), or in lost years of life due to deteriorating health, or ...

Steelmaking slag

This slag is a byproduct from steelmaking processes in which the components of pig iron and steel-scrap are modified in order to produce steel that is so highly valued for excellent toughness and workability.

Steelmaking slag consists of converter slag that is generated by converter and electric arc furnace slag that is generated during the electric arc furnace steelmaking process that uses steel-scrap as the raw material.

Converter slag

In the same way as air-cooled blast furnace slag, converter slag is cooled slowly by natural cooling and water spray in a cooling yard. It is then processed and used for various iron and steel slag (converter) applications. Approximately 110 kg of slag is generated for each ton of converter steel.

Electric arc furnace slag

Electric arc furnace slag is generated when iron scrap is melted and refined. It consists of oxidizing slag that is generated during oxidation refining, and reducing slag that is generated during reduction refining. Approximately 70 kg of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag and 40 kg of reducing slag are generated for each ton of electric arc furnace steel.

Hypothèses prises en compte

Le laitier de haut fourneau étant un coproduit sidérurgique, il est possible de lui allouer une partie de l’impact de la production de fonte [CHE10]. Deux scénarios sont retenus :

‐ Scénario 1 : aucune allocation. Seul l’impact des traitements du laitier (broyage, transport additionnel) est pris en compte et aucun impact de la production de fonte n’est imputé. Il s’agit du scénario souvent utilisé dans les inventaires de cycle de vie des ciments à base de laitier.

‐ Scénario 2 : allocation économique. Une partie de l’impact de la production de fonte est imputé au laitier sur la base d’une allocation économique en lien avec la valeur marchande du laitier et de la fonte. Cette hypothèse revient à affecter 2 % de l’impact de la fonte sur le laitier.

D’autres type d’allocation sont possibles telles qu’une allocation physique sur une base énergétique (5 %) ou massique (19 %) mais on se limitera ici à deux scénarios.
