Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / crusher and belts
French term or phrase: génératrices des diamètres extérieurs
Within the user manual for an aggregate crusher, we find a section on how to check the tension of the equipment's belts. One method instructs:

"Mesurer et régler en quatre points l’alignement au moyen d’une règle posée sur les génératrices des diamètres extérieurs des demi-manchons [d'accouplement]"

My interpretation is that "génératrices des diamètres extérieurs" refers to the shapes or lines forming the external diameter of these parts. Any idea of a generator is out of the question, with this unit powered by a "moteur" referred to elsewhere.

It is relevant that another method for checking belt tension instructs:

"Poser une règle tangente sur les deux poulies".

Your views on this expression would be appreciated.
