Listed in a catalogue of electrical components

relais temporisé/interrupteur horaire/minuterie

There seems to be considerable overlap between these three terms.

At a guess, I'd list them as "timer relay/time switch/programmable timer" respectively.

But guesswork won't do in this case and the references I found don't lead to any conclusive disambiguation.

timer relay
Explanation:
I think you're certainly right about the first one: it's a relay that has an in-built time delay function; so you energize it, and then it stays energized for a certain time after the energizing signal ceases.

However, I feel you may have got the other two reversed: the use of 'horaire' certainly suggests to me that this is the 'programmable timeswitch'; while 'minuterie' suggests one of those switches you have in communal corridors etc., which stays on for a certain time after you press it, and then goes off again after a certain delay.

In fact, one might say there is some overlap between the first and last, as in practice these days, the time-delay function for stairs, corridors, etc. is usually actually achieved using a module based on a timer relay... Clearly the 2nd device is completely different in function.

I didn't want to clutter up my answer with encyclopædic detail, but I really ought to have just mentioned that the timer relay can also have the reverse function — i.e. when the drive signal is sent to it, it is only energized after a preset delay.

minuterie = timer, time switch, watch-dog
http://iate.europa.eu/SearchByQuery.do?method=search&query=m...

According to Ernst “Dictionnaire Géneral de la Technique Industrielle”:
relais retardé = time-lag relais
relais temporisable = adjustable time-lag relais
relais temporisateur ou detemposrisation = time function element
relais temporisé = slow acting relay, time-delay relay
relais temporisé à la chute = low-dropping or –release relay
interrupteur horaire = automatic switch, switch clock, clock relay
minuterie = timing unit, timer, minute wheel work, time switch, time-cut-our

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contacteur
