French term or phrase: postes en 5x8
This is a report on the activities in France of an international glass-manufacturing company.

"Il y a eu des difficultés à recruter, soit locales, soit liées à la difficulté des ***postes en 5X8*** mise en avant par les jeunes générations."

I'm aware that there is a work scheduling system called "5x8" but not sure how to render this in English.

neutral  Tony M: Although in FR we speak of 'équipes', in EN this type of work organization is usually referred to as shiftwork.

neutral  Daryo: this will be probably as much puzzling for those who know nothing about shiftwork as it will be for those who do.

rotating shift work [explain if necessary]

Explanation:
As the only one with the wider context, I'd suggest it is up to you to determine how much precision is required here. I understand 5x8 to be 5 teams working continuously rotating 8-hour shifts (see wikipedia reference below). If you believe this detail is important, then explain it.

disagree  Daryo: as it happens, this is a particularly nasty pattern (compared to other more usual shift patterns), bound to completely disorientate in time people working like this - so precision should be important ...

disagree  Tony M: The detail of this particular shift patter, as Daryo says, is the whole crux of the matter here and certainly does need to be stated.

shift pattern "5 teams in 3 x 8 hour shifts"

strangely enough, that's in fact the shift pattern used by the British police forces:

10-day shift plans
The 6 on, 4 off plan is commonly used in British police forces. The pattern worked consists of 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts, 2 night shifts and 4 days off. Shifts last 9-10 hours, creating some overlap between the 5 teams.

this a quoted in the ST as one of the reasons why there are very few takers on some job offers, so "details" are important.

agree  Tony M: Absolutely — and it's easy to see why people would not like this shift pattern, which precludes any kind of "normal" social life! 3-8 is bad enough... / I think your "10-day shift plan" might also be a good way of expressing it.

  -> Thanks!

agree  Charles Davis: I'd be inclined to add "rotating" for clarity, since although the British police's "6 on, 4 off" is in fact a rotating pattern (2 mornings, 2 afternoons, 2 nights, 4 days off), the term doesn't make this explicit. Then you don't have to list the pattern.
5 hrs
-> what is really peculiar with this pattern is that the start time is shifted every 2 days, usually the start time is the same for 4 days, or a whole week. Thanks!

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: Convincing, yes. I erroneousy thought it mean 5-day week, 8-hours a day. I think that a descriptive "5 teams working in 8-hour rotating shift" would be clearer. Or "5-team 8-hour shiftwork" basis.
6 hrs
-> Agree on that - you probably need some kind of more detailed description - not everyone is familiar with shift patterns, especially the less usual ones. Thanks!
