Under a contract for the supply of 'convoyeurs à bande' for a new line of the Paris underground, the supplier is to provide various spare parts for the conveyors. I'm afraid that I have no context for this term, as it is simply included in a list of spare parts. In the 60’ and 70’, the belts with multi-ply cotton carcasses were particularly thick and required pulleys with a large diameter. For the tail pulley (return), this large diameter represented a problem of vertical obstruction of the frame. To reduce this obstruction, people added a snub pulley.

Snub Pulley:
Snub pulley is used to achieve higher angle of wrap on the drive pulley thereby increasing the traction. It also reduces the belt tension maximizing the life of the conveyor component.It is mounted close to the drive pulley on the return side of the belt.

Bend Pulley:
Bend pulley is used for changing the conveyor belt direction. The prime purpose is to maintains proper tension in the belt & accommodating changes in the length of the conveyor belt(Take up). It is located near the tail end part of the pulley.

The above diagram seems to show that the "tambour de contrainte" is a tensioning drum, while the "tambour d'inflexion" is the bend or snub drum.
