micropile retaining wall Explanation: Note that the "micro" bit is important here. Though you could mention soldiers and sheeting, that's really unnecessary as, obviously, there has to be some sort of retaining sheet between the micro-piles. www.techdico.com/francais-anglais/.../mur de soutènement ty... (low) modular precast concrete retaining wall Explanation: We don't use the Berlin wall metaphor for these in English. https://www.jpconcrete.co.uk/modular-retaining-walls/ 13 Jan 2016 - Precast concrete modular retaining walls can be used to create a variety of ... No time to check now. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days 3 hrs (2017-11-27 15:27:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I won't hide this answer, just in case anyone else has the same idea, but IT'S WRONG, so move on to the fresh answer I've just posted. Oh, and I was wrong about not using the "Berlin wall" metaphor, though it's unusual, there is some support for it. However, as the Berlkin wall wasn't a retaining wall, it seems an odd choice. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days 3 hrs (2017-11-27 15:30:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Perhaps the method was invented in Berlin, before The Wall, in which case, it isn't a metaphor. |

micro-Berlin wall Explanation: Although it's referred to as a method. http://www.deepexcavation.com/en/retaining-systems-soldierpi... Soldier pile walls have successfully being used since the late 18th century in metropolitan cities like New York, Berlin, and London. The method is also commonly known as the "Berlin Wall" when steel piles and timber lagging is used. http://www.tierra-armada.com/tae/dmdocuments/IA EN 2011_6.pd... Rising between the sea and the sky, the Odéon Tower will be the tallest building in the Principality of Monaco at 160 metres, with 48 storeys and 10 underground levels. Spectacular and complex in equal measure, the 56-month project includes the construction of outsized retaining structures and foundations. To accommodate the dimensions and the weight of the building, the configuration of the site (grade difference of over 30 metres) and seismic constraints, it was necessary to build a 70 metre high retaining structure that combines several techniques: micro-Berlin wall, Berlin wall, anchor ties and 55 metre deep diaphragm walls. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 days (2017-11-29 10:13:39 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The name "Berlin wall" is unfortunate, not a metaphor. Perhaps its use should be limited to the technique. http://www.soletanche-bachy.com/SBF/referencesb.nsf/(LTechni... In this technique, parts of the retaining wall (soldier piles, cast-in-place or precast columns) taking the passive earth pressure (at the toe) and the active earth pressure (multiple tie-backs or struts) are built before excavation commences. When these are in place, excavation proceeds in stages (one to a few metres deep, depending on the stand-up time of the soil). Struts or ground anchors are immediately installed on the soldiers previously built, and sheeting is placed against the exposed soil faces. Several stages of excavation may be necessary (there are cases of six rows of tie-backs). The sheeting spanning between the soldiers may be made of precast concrete slabs, wood timbers, steel beams or shotcrete. The generic name of Berlin wall comes from the fact that the technique has been widely used in that city. There, the soldiers were steel beams, usually installed in boreholes a few metres apart. The system was mostly used as a temporary support of excavations. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 days (2017-11-29 10:29:24 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Micropfahlwand {micropile wall} http://gub-geotechnik.at/referenzen/baugruben-boeschungssich... |
