French term or phrase: dégrafage
Spec regarding an extension to an industrial site.

The spec requires that the rebar in existing concrete be inspected by one of three means. Here's the French text:

Le contractant assure l’exécution des sondages dans les parties d'ouvrage existant en béton armé (dalle et voile), pour contrôle des armatures existantes. Le contractant utilisera la technique d’inspection de son choix (Ferroscan, radar, dégrafage). Le contractant assure le rhabillage des armatures s’il effectue des sondages par dégrafage.

It would, therefore, appear that the rebar is laid bare in the case of "dégrafage".

Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

opening up
Explanation:
The term "dégrafage" is used for things coming apart of their own accord (e.g. losing their grip), so perhaps, by extension it could be used to mean "opening up". However, I suspect that this is about undoing the connectors between concrete structural components in order to examine parts that are otherwise hidden, or to remove components for testing elsewhere.

unhooking

Explanation:
I would translate dégrafage as "unhooking". It seems the reinforced panel will be unhooked in order to reveal the rebar.
The contractor shall repair the reinforcement if he carries out unhooking surveys.

I have found the following about reinforcing bars (rebar):
After rebar and utilities have been placed, all other inserts should be placed. These will include lifting and bracing inserts, anchor bolts, welding plates, and so forth. You need to make sure these items are firmly secured so they won’t move during concrete placement or finishing.

Then it mentions about unhooking the lifting cables:
After the erection is done, make sure that all panels are properly braced and secured before unhooking the lifting cables.

Example sentence(s):
  • After the erection is done, make sure that all panels are properly braced and secured before unhooking the lifting cables.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for your suggestion, Edith. However, while "unhooking" may possibly be the correct term, the "unhooking" in the reference you provide is actually the unhooking of the crane hoists used to lift and position new reinforced concrete wall panels. Unhooking those cables should not reveal any rebar at all otherwise there's a problem! In my context, we're talking about examining the reinforcements in existing walls and floors. I suspect the bar is laid bare, examined and then patched up, but I can find anything to confirm what "dégrafage" might be in this case.

agree  Charles Davis: The subsequent "rhabillage des armatures" mentioned in the ST suggests it involves somehow removing an outer covering to expose what's beneath. I wondered about disassembly or dismantling, but your "opening up" might be more accurate.
