French term or phrase: conciergerie
Hi,

I'm translating a document about a Jewish family who escapes from Nazi Poland using the sewer system. The sewage workers let the family rest in a "conciergerie" which the author has told me represents a room at the entrance of the sewage workers' building where the workers would leave their tools and also sit down and have a coffee between shifts." I don't think it's exactly a store room, nor a break room. Any insight would be helpful!

Thanks.

Just to prove to Daryo and anyone else who doubts it that Polish factories had/have porter's lodges:

Thanks to everyone who gave their input! Since it was still somewhat unclear, I described the location rather than translating the term directly.

-> Based on the general meaning of a warehouse where we can stock tools.

neutral  B D Finch: A warehouse is a large store for merchandise, not a place for workers' tools and refreshments.

disagree  Daryo: makes about as much sense as "warehouse" // the Polish name for this room may well have been translated as "la conciergerie" but I can't see any mention of any kind of "concierge" in this text!
23 hrs
-> This is a French to English question, not Polish to English. It makes perfect sense to have a porter's lodge at a sewage works and for workers to leave their tools and have tea there.
