OK, I've done a lot more research and the points de tir have nothing to do with the computer at all. RTM is used in analysing seismic data to create a "picture" of what is underground based on analysing the reflections of seismic waves. These waves are created by exploding sticks of dynamite at ground level. The points de tir are individual explosions. Each explosion creates a set of data to be analysed.

Given the above, "trigger points" is (sort-of) correct but probably not the best choice. I would go with "shots" or "impulses" or something like that.

The only relationship to the computer is that they are saying it can analyse 27,000 (equating to 27,000 individual explosions) of these datasets per day.

Asker: Regarding your comment on more context, as I said it is from the spec for a supercomputer. It is an item in a list and I did not feel that giving you the other items in that list would not add anything. If you would like me to add the entire list, I will gladly do so. Incidentally, what exactly are 'trigger points' for reverse time migration?

I too had come to the conclusion that 'shots' would be the safest option here (the translation had to be submitted yesterday!), so it's good to know that great minds think alike.
