French term or phrase: Rayé pour l'étranger
Hello fellow linguists,
I wonder if anyone could help me with translation of the above in the context of a certificate of historical residence. Under 'Résidence' in the document, the individual to whom the certificate corresponds is listed as 'Rayé pour l'étranger'.
Does anyone know what 'rayé' means here? I have not come across it before in this context.
Could it just be a way of saying 'has gone abroad' / 'resident abroad' or is it perhaps something like 'deported', given in other contexts I have seen it mean 'remove'?
I would welcome anyone's insight into this.
Thank you in advance for your help!
