...so I think we need more context. Without posting identifying info, can you give us more context? For instance, do the rubrics or lines on this birth declaration have titles on them (e.g. "name," "occupation," etc.)? What rubric or line is "culte" on, and is it "culte" or "cult"?

If it's just cult, no -e, I'm inclined to agree with Marco that it's most likely their profession and it means cultivateur. But we need more context to be sure.
