French term or phrase: au chevet

I am translating a death certificate from a west African country. The French (spelling and grammar) is quite bad but I can work out the meaning. In one place, the statement says the doctor "s'est rendu au chevet du malade", which in normal circumstances I would understand as him going to the bedside of the patient, but in this case the person had already passed away and was nowhere near a bedroom or a bed.

I am thinking of just saying "attended the location of the victim", but am wondering if anyone knows of a more usual way of saying this in death certificates.

Asker: Thanks Lara and others. I have used attended, but gone with "attended the location of the victim" as it isn't entirely clear that the doctor in question was sure the person was dead.
