It sounds like the sales arrangement here might be 'on commission' — even though this would not normally be the correct way of expressing that in FR!

Reference information:
Two different suggestions but I think that it relates to "faire la commission"....years ago I used to have a very old guy come to the door in Toulouse who was a rent collector and he also used to say "je fais la commission" (or rather la commissionG in Toulouse hee hee) and I always understood it to mean that he would complete the "job" - pass on the money etc). Here are some examples of the meaning

Faire la commission
Mandat, charge que l'on donne à quelqu'un de faire quelque chose.
Donner commission à quelqu'un de faire quelque chose, lui donner une commission, le charger de quelque commission.
Exécuter, remplir une commission.
S'acquitter de sa commission.
Outrepasser sa commission.
