On parle souvent de "art" dans le domaine du brevet (en français aussi, mais moins).

Bon, après, je ne sais pas si je suis plus qualifié pour tourner la phrase anglaise correctement, mais quelque chose du genre "after a review of the state of the art" ou "after a study of anterior art" devrait marcher.
