Art/Literary - Automotive / Cars & Trucks / In A Film Synopsis
French term or phrase: remorque au chargement
Contexte:

Merci Beaucoup,

disagree  Tony M: Right idea, but tricky to work into the syntax; personally, I prefer to avoid possessives for inanimate objects, unless deliberately for stylistic effect. In this case, we have proof positive that this is indeed the wrong (back-)translation.

-> Tony, you've come back to change a neutral to a disagree, and then to say that Hughes agrees with you, and then again to say that my translation is indeed wrong. I think you've made your point.

agree  mchd: oui, c'est bien le sens de l'expression française

« un autre tracteur se traînait avec une remorque au chargement deux fois plus haut que le nôtre »

e.g.

"another tractor trundled along with a trailer loaded twice as high as our one"

And here we have the original: (thanks to Wendy Streitpath for locating this for us!)

"And there in front of us was some other tractor creeping along with a trailer loaded twice as high as ours"

I'd say my back-translation of the term as asked was pretty spot-on, eh?

Oh dear, I do apologise for spelling Wendy Streitparth's name wrongly above :-(

neutral  Hilary McGrath: Well, just another way of saying what I said, and of course it depends on the rest of the sentence.

-> Yes, I'd hope any answers were only going to have stylistic differences; but I think this wording would be easier to fit in with the surrounding text, and Mr Hughes appears to agree.

agree  Ph_B (X): Can't argue with that - see ref. in previous question: https://www.proz.com/kudoz/french-to-english/general-convers...

agree  philgoddard: This is the only possible correct answer, given that we have the original English.
