French term or phrase: hasardons une percée
From an academic article on the painter Giotto. The writer begins by outlining the reservations of the art historian Vasari with regard to the way Giotto painted eyes and their expression. He says that, if Vasari had had the opportunity to look closely at Giotto's frescoes at a chapel Padua, he might well have changed his mind. He then leads into his discussion of these frescoes as follows:

"...La décoration de la Chapelle révèle en effet... l’attention fine que Giotto portait aux pouvoirs d’action des regards.
Hasardons une percée.
Soit pour commencer une des premières scènes narratives de la décoration de la Chapelle (fig. 1)."

So far I have, provisionally, "Let us look for an opening", but am not very happy with it.

let us venture an insight
Explanation:
I'm less sure about translating "percée" as "insight" and think that how that word is translated depends very much upon what follows. It could be "a new/fresh way of seeing / looking at / analysing it"
