French term or phrase: à reprendre à l’assemblage avec la colonne vertébrale
Architectural description of the design and construction of a service station with a shop and motel. Quite a distinctive design - see http://www.houtinfobois.be/realisation.php?id=20&detail=295&... for further info and photos. This bit is causing me problems:

Les ‘grandes côtes’ présentent un porte-à-faux de 10,8 m à reprendre à l’assemblage avec la colonne vertébrale.

Client clarified as follows: ‘à reprendre à l’assemblage’ = porte-à-faux dont les charges sont reprises au niveau de l’assemblage avec …

Best effort so far: The main sides have a 10.8 metre overhang, which joins the rest of the structure to the spine and so spreads the load

Possibly over-interpreting??

to be taken up by its connection to the spine
Explanation:
Loads are "taken up" by the load-bearing parts of the structure.

There are a number of problems with your proposed translation. The term "overhang" is not a good choice. It doesn't "[join] the rest of the structure to the spine" and you have introduced "spreads the load", which does not seem to be in the source text and does not seem to be a correct description of the structure.

Sorry if that was unduly critical. However, the cantilevered structure doesn't really spread the load, because it is the load referred to in your text. The load is distributed among the points of connection to the spine that take up that load.
