Poor eyesight prevented this guy fulfilling his boyhood dream of becoming a pilot; instead he pursued an engineering/management career in aviation, first with the Belgian Luchtmacht and then in industry. Is this just "temporary officer" (?) or is it more to do with a "short-term commission"?

Vliegen met een F16 was een jongensdroom die niet waar kon worden. Dan maar iets anders bij de Belgische luchtmacht? Twee jaar lang is X tijdelijk officier geweest. Een job met zekerheid, maar niet echt waar hij op zat te wachten.

Used 'acting officer' but also gave the client the choice between 'temporary officer' and 'engineer on a short-term commission'. Can't say for sure that 'acting officer' is what is meant here, as the client never got back to me (don't you just hate that?). Thanks.
