cladding Explanation: I can't find an example of cable being clad in wood, but this would seem to make sense in the context. "Jacketing" might be better unless it's needed to describe an additional layer that goes over the cladding. |

serving Explanation: When finishing a splice, the process of winding waxed linen thread around the splice is called 'serving'. I wonder if it might fit in your context as well?
