hopper Explanation: apusäiliö is a secondary container into which contents of container are emptied. Such a container with a discharge opening is called a hopper. |

receiver Explanation: I guess that ’apusäiliö’ is a receiver where the waste is first dumped, and then the waist is dropped into the main container by opening the hatch at the bottom of the receiver. The purpose of the receiver may be to prevent gas, fumes, smell, dust, greenhouse gases or similar from escaping out of the container. Of course, ‘auxiliary container’ is a word-for-word translation of the Finnish expression, and thus acceptable, but ‘receiver’ is more informative. More informative term like ‘syöttösäiliö’ could also be used in Finnish text; among many other clarity improvements that the Finnish text obviously (desperately?) needs. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs (2007-09-10 13:04:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Damn the English orthography! 'waist' should be 'waste'. |
