disagree  PeeGee (X): The planning part should not be left out! Take time to plan the study programme / curriculum / studies... there are several alternatives. Here they really do stress the planning, though. The explanation here is correct as far as the meaning goes.

neutral  Merja Jauhiainen: I think both you and Pirjo provided adequate translations; perhaps you should have posted your suggestion as an answer, not as an explanation? The sentence as a whole has quite enough emphasis on the importance of planning.

  -> Thanks. What I mean is that 'paneudu' here does not need to be translated literally and in that position in the sentence. Paneutua is a common word in Finnish, of course, but there is no readymade equivalent that has the same high frequency, in my view,

Pay close attention

Explanation:
I like the other suggestion as well. I might render this sentence (somewhat loosely) as "Pay close attention to planning out your coursework, and don't be afraid to ask for additional information. Careful planning will make your studies go much smoother."

Example sentence(s):
  • Pay close attention to planning out your coursework.

agree  Marianna Parikka (X): The taking time... translation is good, too. I prefer this one because it has more of the "paneutua" flavour to it.
