It may be ok, and I would agree in other contexts, but since it is veterinary education, I am quite confident it does relate to the animal and not any appalling cases. You may be able to gauge that within context, though.

I really don't think it is related to a pig surgery, even though the text is contextualized in a veterinary practice. But it could be about medical errors too, like Timo suggested... I cannot tell though. But my feeling is that we are talking here about learning interactions between teachers and students, that's what the text is all about....

Could you please give a bit more context? If this is related to your subsequent question on fertility treatment, I think Timo in his thoughts below that you need to refer to pig-related cases.
