یکى از روش هاى متداول ساماندهى رودخانه ها و کنترل فرسايش کنارى رودخانه استفاده از آب شکن مى باشد. آب شکن به دو نوع نفوذپذير و نفوذناپذير تقسيم مى شود. مکانيزم عملکرد آب شکن به اين صورت است که با هدايت جريان به سمت محور رودخانه از ايجاد جريان قوى در طول ساحل جلوگيرى کرده و مانع فرسايش ساحل رودخانه مى گردد. از سوى ديگر الگوى جديد جريان باعث ايجاد فرسايش (آب شستگى) در دماغه ى آب شکن مى شود. آب شکن ها معمولا به صورت سرى ساخته مى شوند و پايدارى آنها بستگى زيادى به پايدارى اولين آب شکن دارد. در اين مقاله پيشنهاد شده است که براى حفظ پايدارى اولين آب شکن از يک آب شکن کوتاه تتر (فرعى) که به صورت عمود بر جريان در بالادست اولين آب شکن قرار مى گيرد استفاده شود و بر اساس انجام آزمايش ها در فلوم آزمايشگاهى تاثير نسبت هاى مختلف طول اين آب شکن فرعى به طول آب شکن اصلى به ازاى فواصل مختلف آب شکن فرعى از آب شکن اصلى در دبى هاى مختلف بررس شده است. از لحاظ هيدروليکى پارامترهاى بى بعد L’/L (نسبت طول آب شکن فرعى به طول اولين آب شکن)، هيدروليکى با معرفى عدد Fr جريان مورد مطالعه قرار گرفت. تحليل آمارى نتايج آزمايشگاهى، مدلى را براى پيش بينى آب شستگى نسبى در دماغه ى آب شکن اصلى ارائه مى دهد.

Explanation:
The front part of a ship is known as the bow. Prow is also used. If you are referring to the funny shaped part of large tankers that is under the water line to reduce drag, it is called a "bulbous bow"
