agree  Morad Seif: I prefer to use "base" for پایگاه. Actually, considering collocations makes one make fine distinctions.

agree  Edward Plaisance Jr: generally, unit refers to a group of personnel, whereas base refers to a location...you could have a front line unit and/or front line base
