Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: توخالی
Hi,

The same passage:
۷«همچنین، هنگام دعا، عباراتی توخالی تکرار مکنید، آنگونه که بت‌پرستان می‌کنند، زیرا می‌پندارند به‌سبب زیاده‌گفتن، دعایشان مستجاب می‌شود.۸پس مانند ایشان مباشید، زیرا پدر شما پیش از آنکه از او درخواست کنید، نیازهای شما را می‌داند.

Is توخالی an adjective or an adverb?

Many thanks,

Simon

English translation:bosh/nonsense
Explanation:
It is an adjective and means: بی محتوا، مهمل

Please not that in Farsi when the adjective has "ی", we usually add the indefinite suffix to the noun, not adjective:
کتابی عالی instead of کتاب عالیی
