neutral  Mohammad Reza Razaghi: Dear Edward, "استحصال" does not mean "production". It means "extracting" or "obtaining" an ingredient from a plant, etc.

  -> Thanks for the comment. My Aryanpur gives only "exploitation/utilization/production" I think "production" is general enough and can be used in this context. I would have thought they would have used "estekhraj" or "osare" for extraction.
agree  Habib Shariati: Dear Ed, efficacious in Farsi is used mostly as ثمر بخش، کارا و کارساز but not موثر, anyway your trying to be useful here in my view is worth a praise. All the best
